Quantic's Imaginary Musical Instrument
Quantic, the UK musician, producer and DJ, has been producing plenty of sonic gems over the last decade, from his solo electronic projects as Quantic and his band the Quantic Soul Orchestra, to his collaborative work with the likes of Nidia Gongora under the name The Combo Bárbaro, not to mention his Ondatropica project which performed at the London Olympics.
Most recently he has released Painting Silhouettes, the fourth official single from his acclaimed Magnetica album. A deeply personal record, it is apparently the first time Will has used his own vocals.
His thirst for musical knowledge, in particular of African and Latin American heritage, has seen the artist relocate to Columbia and then to New York in order to master various recording techniques and learn from the experts.
And so the guitarist, accordionist, and studio producer was a perfect subject to ask what imaginary instrument he would invent...
“A mind-flute maybe?
"I’ve been trying to retro-fit my accordion for a while - trying to make it midi - so I could trigger Ableton from it. But because it was me and I’m crap at DIY, it fell apart. So it would be something to put my accordion into Ableton.”
In the manner of Crimewatch, we bring you an artist's representation of how this might look...
